Sebastian was a captain of the Roman Praetorian Guard in the 3rd century. When his Christian faith was revealed, Sebastian was tied to a tree, shot full of arrows, and left for dead. He recovered and went directly to Emperor Diocletian, firmly rebuking his persecution of Christians. He was captured again and beaten to death with clubs. For his endurance and passion, Sebastian is the patron of athletes. Feast Day: January 20 Patronage
