Matthew was a tax collector in Capernaum, Palestine, and had a life of power and wealth. One day while working, Jesus called him to be His follower. Without hesitation, Matthew left everything he had and followed Jesus. He began to live in poverty and to preach His word through Judea, Persia and Ethiopia. St. Matthew was one of the twelve apostles. He wrote the first Gospel in which he describes a part of Jesus' life as well as His teachings. St. Matthew is symbolized as an angel and his feast day is September 21st. How can we follow Jesus and spread His word?
