St. Benedict was born in Italy in the year 480. He became a monk and attracted many disciples with his charisma, his wisdom and his miracles. He was the founder of the Benedictine Order, one of the largest monastic orders in the world. He wrote a book called the Rule, which talks about the norms that should exist in a Christian monastic community, especially prayer, obedience, work, brotherly love, poverty and hospitality. He is the patron saint of Europe and his feast day is on July 10th.
