Pier Giorgio Frassati was born in 1901 in Turin, Italy. A student activist and lay Dominican, Pier Giorgio devoted his spare time and money to serving the poor. His friends and family loved his humour, kindness and courage. Pier Giorgio was an avid outdoorsman and is often depicted hiking and skiing. He died at the age of 24. Pope John Paul II called Pier Giorgio the "Man of the Eight Beatitudes."
